Approximate Schedule(April 20 & 21  2019) :

 

Saturday, April 20

On-site registration: 9:15 am - 9:45 am

Opening ceremony: 9:50 am - 10:00 am

Rounds 1-3: 10 am, 2 pm, 5 pm

 

Sunday, April 21

Round 4-5: 10 am; ~1 pm or ASAP

Tie-Breaks: immediately after round 5

U-8   (Born after Jan 1, 2011)  U-14 (Born after Jan 1, 2005)
U-10 (Born after Jan 1, 2009)  U-16 (Born after Jan 1, 2003)
U-12 (Born after Jan 1, 2007)  U-18 (Born after Jan 1, 2001)

 

Registration:
Fill out the registration form on-line available at http://www.albertachess.org/2019AYCC.php

Payment will be made on site by either cash or cheque made out to "Alberta Chess Association." 
Pre-registered players must come by 9:45 am on the morning of the first round, or they won't be paired.


Entry fee: 

$30 if pre-registered online by noon, April 19 and $35 for on-site registration.

Winners of Regional Qualifiers receive free entry.

 

Tournament Format:

Depending on the number of entries per section, most likely a 5-round Open Swiss. Sections with fewer than 6 players may be combined with other sections. All sections are CFC rated. CFC membership is not required. ACA junior membership required ($1/year). All participants must be residents of Alberta.

 

Time control: 

Game in 90 minutes with a 30-second increment beginning from move 1.

Byes: Up to two half-point byes in rounds 1-4 if requested prior to start of round 1

 

Award ceremony:

immediately after the completion of each section

U-8 and U-10 groups may follow their own schedule.

 

Prizes in each section:

1st place: $800 travel grant towards a trip to the 2019 Canadian Youth Chess Championship + Trophy

2nd place: $100 of professional chess coaching + Trophy

3rd place: Trophy

Top girl: Trophy

All other participants will receive medals and/or ribbons.
